Denise Crute's Bio:
Dr Denise Crute is a Neurointensivist and Neurosurgeon. She completed her Neurocritical Care Fellowship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, her Neurosurgical Residency at Northwestern University Hospitals, and her Research Fellowship in Neurophysiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her undergraduate degree from Duke University. Dr. Crute offers her patients a substantial and unique expertise. Dr. Crute specializes in the care and treatment of neurologic emergencies, and is particularly interested in minimally invasive, image-guided, and computer - assisted treatment of stroke, cerebrovascular disorders, tumors, and cranial and spinal injuries. Dr. Crute is active in organized neurocritical care, neurosurgery, and international medical aid. She is past president of Women in Neurosurgery (WINS), and an active member of several organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. She volunteers in Central America and helped establish the first neurosurgical program in Western Honduras through Central American Medical Outreach (CAMO). Dr. Crute is also an accomplished artist and medical illustrator. Her artwork was most recently published on the cover of Currents, the Neurocritical Care Society Newsletter (October 2012). She is very interested in optical, haptic and virtual technologies and their applicability to neural monitoring, surgical education, rehearsal, and robotic procedures. All profits from the sale of her artwork (Mighty Spark Studio) are donated to international medical aid charities.
